"The Sofianer" is a collaborative art project that invites artists from Bulgaria and the world to create a collection of covers for the imaginary magazine "The Sofianer". It is also an homage to the cult covers of The New Yorker magazine.

The project aims to celebrate our love for Sofia, to show its bizarre, funny or absurd sides, to give a poetic or unexpected look at the present day, to reveal our dreams for the future and to initiate a public debate about what city we (want to) live in.

I am thrilled that my first cover is among the selected ones for the second annual edition of the imaginary magazine and part of an art exhibition in Sofia between 11th and 24th of September, as well as part of a paperback with all 28 artworks.

Individual prints are available vor purchase at The Sofianer.
My first artwork is of Elisaveta Bagryana, a famous Bulgarian poet, born in the capital, who withessed the passing of Haley's comet, a rare astronomical occurance, twice in her life - in 1910 and again in 1986. This inspired her to write a poem called "The Star".
The covers were exhibited on the 11th of September in the park at the National Theatre in Sofia, Bulgaria. The exhibition will last until the 24th of September, 2023.
The second artwork is depicting "Slaveikov" square, with the famous statue of the Slaveikovi father and son sitting on a bench. This cover unfortunately did not make it to the selection.
